March 10: The British Solomon Islands were granted a new badge.
March 10: The old flag of Sarawak was replaced with a colonial ensign.

August 14: Pakistan became independent from the United Kingdom.
August 15: India became independent from the United Kingdom. British suzerainty lapsed over the princely state of Hyderabad, which had not yet acceded to the new country.
